Lou Ferrigno is an actor, personal fitness trainer, former professional bodybuilder, businessman, and a member of law enforcement. He has appeared in approximately two dozen films and on approximately two dozen television programs. He is popularly known as The Incredible Hulk.

 

Louis Jude Ferrigno was born in 1951 in Brooklyn, New York. Ear infections as a baby led to losing the majority of his hearing. His hearing loss was diagnosed when he was three years old and later he began wearing hearing aids. Lou was bullied in school, which led to him becoming fit and bodybuilding. He learned metal working in high school and graduated in 1969.

 

Lou began weight training when he was thirteen years old, however won his first major IFBB Mr. America title when he was eighteen years old. He, also, worked as a sheet metal worker in a Brooklyn factory. He briefly played in the Canadian Football League as well. After returning to the bodybuilding competition circuit, he became IFBB Mr. Universe in 1973 and again in 1974. He retired from competition in 1995. He appeared on many magazine covers during his career.

 

While bodybuilding he appeared in the documentaries Pumping Iron and Stand Tall. He had, also, began his acting career in 1977. He began starring as The Hulk in television’s The Incredible Hulk in 1977. Many, but not all, of his subsequent roles have been as himself or The Hulk on television, as well as, in movies.

 

Lou has trained and been sworn into multiple sheriff departments as a volunteer. He was, also, a contestant on 2012’s The Celebrity Apprentice. He won $50,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association on one task.

 

Lou married in 1978, but divorced a year later. He married again in 1980. He and his second wife, Carla Green, have three children.

 

Lou believes his hearing loss led him to accomplish all that he has in life. He was determined to be and do all that he could. Be inspired! Have a bright day!
