Laura Dern is an actress, director, producer, and activist/humanitarian. She has been involved in approximately four dozen films and two dozen television programs. She has been nominated for and/or won honors and awards, including having a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Laura Elizabeth Dern was born in 1967 in Los Angeles, California. Her parents are the actress and actor Diane Ladd and Bruce Dern. Her parents divorced when she was two years old and she was primarily raised by her mother.
Her professional career began young, in 1973, when she made a cameo appearance in White Lightning with her mother. In 1982, she received Miss Golden Globe and roles of hers have resulted in additional nominations and awards since.
Laura married musician Ben Harper in 2005. They had a son and a daughter. They divorced in 2013.
Laura is involved with over a dozen charities and many causes. The American Heart Association, Best Friends Animal Society, and Healthy Child Healthy World are a few of the charities she has supported. She has advocated for Down Syndrome awareness and publically supported President Barack Obama at the beginning of his presidency.
