Idina Menzel is an actress, singer, and songwriter. She is known for and been awarded for Broadway appearances. Her popularity grew with her role on the television series Glee, movie roles, and albums.

 

Idina Kim Mentzel was born in 1971 in Queens or Syosset, New York. Her family is Jewish and she has a younger sister. Idina’s parents divorced when she was fifteen years old and she attended Syosset High School. She, also, began singing at weddings and bar mitzvahs around this time. Idina then attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and earned her BA in Drama.

 

In 1995, Idina got her first part on Broadway in Rent. She has gone on to appear in about a dozen other theater productions and been nominated for and earned numerous awards, including Tony Awards. In 2001, she made her first co-starring role on film in Kissing Jessica Stein. She has since appeared in approximately a dozen films, including the smash animated hit Frozen. Television shows, a radio show, and video game appearances include over a dozen parts of hers as well. The first notable performance of her music career was her 1998 Lilith Fair performance. She has released about a dozen albums and performed at multiple concerts.

 

Idina married Taye Diggs in 2003. They had a son in 2009. However, Idina and Taye divorced in 2014. Her public charity life started in 2009, however, in 2010 she and Taye Diggs founded A BroaderWay Foundation to support young people in the arts. Idina, also, supports LGBT rights and charities and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
