Richard Branson is a business magnate, investor, celebrity, author, and philanthropist. Richard is the founder of Virgin Group and controls over 400 companies. He has been active as an entrepreneur since 1966.
Richard Charles Nicholas Branson was born in 1950 in Blackheath, London, England. He began a magazine named Student when he was sixteen. He attended Stowe School, however, his dyslexia caused him to struggle academically.
In 1970, he started a mail-order record business and later opened a record store. In 1972, he had a chain of record stores he named Virgin Records. His record label grew and he later expanded his Virgin brand to include Virgin Atlantic airline and many other business ventures.
Branson has had his business ventures and personal life include World Record attempts and philanthropy. In the 1990s, he joined Peter Gabriel, Nelson Mandela, and others to solve global conflicts. In 1999, he became a sponsor of the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children. In 2005, the Branson School of Entrepreneurship was founded in South Africa. In 2007, his philanthropic group formed The Elders. In 2009, the Carbon War Room was founded to find solutions for global warming and the energy crisis. Other philanthropic and business ventures have included Richard Branson as well.
Richard Branson has been a part of television, film, and print. He has guest starred on series and made cameo appearances in films. Richard has published over a half dozen books, including The Virgin Way: How to Listen, Learn, Laugh, and Lead.
Richard has been married twice. He had a daughter and son with his second wife, Joan Templeman. He enjoys reading, writing, kitesurfing, and many other activities.
Many awards and honors have been given to Richard Branson. One early honor was to receive his honorary Doctorate of Technology from Loughborough University. He was Knighted by Charles, Prince of Wales in 2000. Sir Richard Branson continues to earn and receive awards.
