Glenn Close is an actress, producer, singer, businesswoman, and humanitarian.  She has starred in over four dozen films, had over two dozen television roles, and been involved with several documentaries.  Her professional career began on stage, where she has since appeared many times, in 1974.

 

Glenn Close was born in 1947 in Greenwich, Connecticut.  She has four siblings.  Her family lived in a communal center from the time she was seven years old and for fifteen years.  She, also, studied at St. George’s School in Switzerland.  She graduated from Rosemary Hall in 1965 and traveled with the singing group Up With People.  When she was 22 years old, she attended the College of William & Mary.  She studied and trained as an actor during this time.

 

While she began performing on stage in 1974, her first film role in The World According to Garp was in 1982.  Thus far over her career she has won three Emmy Awards, three Tony Awards, other awards, and received six Academy Award nominations.  She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

 

Glenn Close has been married three times.  Another significant relationship resulted in the birth of her daughter, Annie Starke.  Annie is an aspiring actress.

 

Glenn owned a coffee shop in the 1990s until 2006.  She is the President of Trillium Productions, Inc.  In 2007, she co-founded FetchDog, selling accessories for dogs.  She sold the company in 2012.

 

Glenn Close is politically active and supports many causes and charities.  She spoke at the 2004 Democratic National Convention.  She is known for and been honored for her work for the LGBT community, women’s rights, and mental health.
