Happy Veterans Day! Today is a day dedicated to honor all Veterans. Any person who has served in any branch of the military is honored today. November 11th is officially known as a United States public holiday.
The holiday coincides with holidays celebrated in other countries to celebrate and honor the ending of World War I: Armistice Day and Remembrance Day. The U.S. holiday became Veterans Day in 1954 to honor and thank all Veterans. In 1971, the holiday was moved to be part of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act to the fourth Monday in October. In 1978, it was moved back to November 11th.
The holiday is celebrated in various ways throughout the United States. Having the day off, or the corresponding Friday or Monday if it falls on a Saturday or Sunday, is one possible way employers celebrate the holiday with employees. Many restaurants offer Veterans free meals and many retail establishments have sales or offer Veterans discounts.
The United States Marine Corps birthday is November 10th and with Veterans Day being November 11th, this often gives these deserving Marines a 96-hour liberty period. Semper fi (always faithful)! Thank you Marines!
Thank you to all Veterans and your families! The sacrifice to your country is commendable. Honor and thanks should be given to all of those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
Be inspired! Have a bright day!
