A daily dose of Inspiration for you!

I have been taking the approximately month and a half to review the United States past Presidents.  All adult citizens are preparing to vote for the next President of the United States of America.  Looking back, may help prepare each of us to move forward.  We can be inspired by the Presidents of the United States of America.


Barack Obama is currently the 44th President of the United States.  He has served from January 20, 2009 and serves until January 20, 2017.  He is, also, a politician, author, educator, and the first African American President.


Barack Hussein Obama II was born in 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii.  Later in 1961 his once married parents separated and his mother moved with Barack to attend the University of Washington.  His parents divorced in 1964.  His mother then married an Indonesian graduate student in 1965.  The family moved to Jakarta.  Barack returned to Hawaii to live with his maternal grandparents in 1971.  He graduated high school in 1979 from a college preparatory school.


Then in 1979, Barack moved to Los Angeles to attend Occidental College.  In 1981, he transferred to Columbia College, Columbia University.  He graduated in 1983.  He went to work in Chicago as a director of the Developing Communities Project.  In addition to working there, Barack worked as an instructor and consultant at a community organizing institute.  In 1988, he entered Harvard Law School.  In summers, he worked as an associate at law firms.  He graduated with honors in 1991.  He published Dreams from My Father in 1995.  He had begun teaching constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School in 1992 and continued until 2004.


Barack Obama was involved in other important projects.  In 1994, he began serving on the board of directors of the Woods Fund of Chicago.  He, also, began serving on the board of directors of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge.


In 1997, he began serving as a member of the Illinois Senate.  Next he began serving as a United States Senator in 2005.  His Presidency began in 2009.


Barack had met Michelle Robinson while he was working as an associate at a law firm during the summer of 1989.  They married in 1992.  The couple’s first daughter,Malia, was born in 1998 and their second daughter, Sasha, was born in 2001.


During his first term in office, he signed economic stimulus legislation.  He, also, began the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, and the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Repeal Act of 2010.  Military involvement in the Iraq War ended, troop levels in Afghanistan increased, an arms control treaty was signed with Russia, there was increased military involvement in Libya, and military operations that resulted in the death of Osama bin Laden.


During his second term, he has promoted gun control, LGBT inclusiveness, and same-sex marriage.  Military involvement in Iraq increased in response to ISIL, involvement in Afghanistan decreased, discussions led to the 2015 Paris Agreement, he brokered a nuclear agreement with Iran, and improved relations with Cuba.


Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.  At the time it was said to be given because he strengthened international diplomacy and cooperation between people.  Nicknames he has had include Barry, No Drama Obama, and Bam.  Be inspired!  Have a bright day!
