Allison Janney is an actress.  She has won numerous Primetime Emmy Awards.  Her first four Emmy Awards were for her role in The West Wing.  She won another Emmy for a guest role before winning a couple for her role on the comedy Mom.

 

Allison Brooks Janney was born in Boston, Massachusetts.  She was raised in Dayton, Ohio.  She was raised with two siblings.  She attended Kenyon College.  After studying acting with Paul Newman, she trained at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City and did summer programs at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

 

A role in a television comedy led to roles in daytime television soap operas and guest roles in primetime series.  Allison was, also, a cast member on a radio show.  She had many roles in films during the 1990s and since.  In 1999, Allison was cast in The West Wing.  She won Emmy Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards.  Other accolades have come her way as well.  Film roles and accolades have occurred.  She has been active in theatre as well. Her voice has been used in roles in animated films and even on Disney attractions.

 

Allison’s brother fought addiction and ended his life, so her role on Mom has that personal connection with the addiction struggle.  Allison has donated to and supported causes that fight bullying, fight poverty, fight hunger, and promote health.  She has supported the American Heart Association, American Stroke Association, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Heifer International, and STOMP Out Bullying.
