Jennifer Nettles is a country music musician, singer-songwriter, performer, and actress. She is best known for her part in the group Sugarland, but has released her own music and been part of other released music as well. She plays multiple instruments and is known for her vocals.
Jennifer Odessa Nettles was born in Douglas, Georgia. She graduated Coffee High School and attended Agnes Scott College. She studied Sociology and Anthropology and graduated in 1997. She married her first husband in 1998. They divorced in 2007. She remarried in 2011 and had a son, Magnus, in 2012 with her husband, Justin Miller.
Previously, she was part of the acoustic duo and group Soul Miner’s Daughter. They performed and released music. In 1999, she formed the Jennifer Nettles Band, which performed and released music. In 2003, she formed what was then a trio, Sugarland. They won a Grammy in 2006. Also in 2006, one member left and Sugarland became a duo. In 2007, she won another Grammy for her duo collaboration with Bon Jovi. In 2009, Sugarland won additional Grammy Awards. More awards have followed for Jennifer and Sugarland. Jennifer has hosted the CMA Country Christmas and was a judge on the single season of the competition show Duets. She released a solo album in 2014 and has been part of other musical collaborations.
Jennifer made her acting debut in 2015 in Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors. She is slated to reappear in the sequel. In 2016, she had a role on the series Underground.
Jennifer has supported multiple charities and causes. She has raised money for and supported the Shalom Foundation for impoverished children and families. She hosted Common Thread for artists to raise money for their charities. She, also, was part of the Artists for Haiti remake of We Are the World.
