Shaquille O’Neal has been a professional basketball player, a television sports analyst, an actor, a rapper, an author, a member of law enforcement, a businessman, an investor, a Freemason, and more.  Despite his successful and award winning 19-year career as a professional basketball player, he has been committed to his education and his work post-basketball.  His dedication is inspirational.


Shaquille Rashaun O’Neal was born in 1972 in Newark, New Jersey.  His stepfather was a career Army Reserve Sergeant.  They lived in New Jersey, Germany, and Texas with his mother, Lucille O’Neal.  Shaquille played basketball and started making records in high school.  He continued playing basketball and earning accolades at Louisiana State University.  He ended up being the 1st overall pick in the 1992 NBA draft to the Orlando Magic.


During his basketball career he played with the Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Boston Celtics.  Awards have included MVP awards, four NBA championships, being a 15-time NBA All-Star, and more.  He was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014.  He was part of the team that won gold in the 1994 World Championship and gold in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.


He was married in 2002, had a step-son, and four biological children.  His wife filed for divorce in 2009.  They had previously tried to work out differences that ended up being filed as irreconcilable differences.


Shaquille has continued to make news for his work, volunteer work, as a hockey fan, and for his support of others.  He has several published books, has earned multiple degrees, has about a half dozen albums, has appeared in many movies and on television, and more. Be inspired!  Have a bright day!
