Anne Jacqueline Hathaway was born in Brooklyn, New York. Her family moved to Millburn, New Jersey when she was six years old. She has an older and a younger brother. She is Christian. In high school, she was in school plays and won a Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Award nomination for one role. After graduation from Millburn High School, she attended Vassar College and studied English and Women’s Studies. She transferred to New York’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study. She had, also, studied at the Academy of Dramatic Arts ans was part of the Barrow Group Theater Company’s acting program. She has sang soprano with the All-Eastern U.S. High School Honors Chorus and was in plays at Seton Hall Preparatory School in 1998 and 1999.
Anne began her professional career after performing at Carnegie Hall and being cast in a television role in Get Real. Her film debut then came with The Princess Diaries. She has since appeared in well-over two dozen films and over a half dozen television roles, some of both being animated. She has appeared on stage and been part of charted songs. She has been nominated for and won multiple awards. She won an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
In 2012, she was married to Adam Shulman in an interfaith Christian and Jewish service. She gave birth to their son in 2016. She is involved with several charities. Some of these are The Creative Coalition, The Step Up Women’s Network, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The Human Rights Campaign, and The Lollipop Theatre Network. She has been honored for her work and is, also, a LGBT rights activist.
