A daily dose of Inspiration for you!

Today’s source of Inspiration is a celebrity that has a very busy life and career.  Samuel L. Jackson is an incredible actor and a film producer and is involved in many projects, causes, and more.  He has appeared in over 100 films.  His voice has been used in animated films, television series, video games, and audiobooks.  He has received multiple honors and awards.

Samuel Leroy Jackson was born in Washington, D.C.  He was an only child and grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  His mother raised him as his father lived in Missouri and died from alcoholism.  Being born in the late 1940s, he attended segregated schools.  This man, known partially for his voice, is a stutterer and had issues with it especially when he was young.  He attended Morehouse College for marine biology before pursuing acting.  He switched his major, joined a local acting group, and co-founded “Just Us Theatre”.


Samuel attended the Martin Luther King, Jr. funeral as an usher, was involved in a hostage offensive at his college, and became active in the Black Power movement.  His mother ended up sending him to live in Los Angeles to distance him from the unrest.  He had appeared on stage multiple times before doing television films and making his big-screen film debut in Together for Days in 1972.  Roles in New York City led to a decade of stage roles there, as well as, problems with addiction.  A 1981 stage role led to his introduction to Spike Lee and roles in films and television.  Recognition and more work followed.


Samuel L. Jackson married actress and sports channel producer LaTanya Richardson in 1980.  They have a daughter, Zoe.  In 2009, the family started their own charitable organization that mainly supports education.  In 2013, Samuel and the charity Prizeo joined in fighting Alzheimer’s disease.  He has, also, been involved in a campaign to teach men about testicular cancer and getting themselves checked.


Samuel L. Jackson has had a full life.  Good and bad experiences have led to memorable, and not so memorable, roles and significant gross earnings, awards, and more.  Be inspired!  Have a bright day!
