She is known as an animal rights activist, however has aided other causes, such as Little Kids Rock. This nonprofit works on behalf of music education in needy U.S. public schools.
Leona Louise Lewis was born in 1985 in Islington, London, England. She started singing as a child. She attended Sylvia Young Theatre School, Italia Conti Academy, the Ravenscourt Theatre School, and BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology.
She struggled to achieve her dream of a career in music before winning the 2006 season of The X Factor. Top-charting music was produced. Her success continued with a contract with Simon Cowell’s record label, Syco Music. Success and top-charting music continued to be produced. In 2007, she signed a five-album contract deal with Clive Davis’s record label, J Records.
Leona’s success led to awards. She has won a Bambi Award, a MTV Video Music Award, and multiple World Music Awards. She made her acting debut in the film Walking on Sunshine. She has been a guest judge on Platinum Hit and The X Factor. In 2009, Leona signed a book deal. The book is an autobiography with many photographs.
In 2008, The Times reported that Leona turned down a significant sum of money for opening a Harrods sale because they sell clothing made from animal fur. Leona is a vegan. She launched her line of “ethical accessories” through Topshop and started a fashion company, LOA Clothing Ltd.
