Happy Mother’s Day! Mother’s Day is a day to celebrate and honor mothers. Mothers do many things for their families, as well as, others. Mothers influence, inspire, and make substantial impact on society. Mothers deserving of the title Mother or Mom have done tremendous things to support and care for their children that reflect their love.
Mothers and motherhood have been celebrated throughout the world for thousands of years. Mother’s Day was first celebrated in the United States in the early twentieth century. Anna Jarvis started celebrating in 1908 in Grafton, West Virginia as a memorial to her mother. Also that year the U.S. Congress rejected the plan to make Mother’s Day a national holiday. However, by 1911 all U.S. states observed the holiday. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation designating the second Sunday in May a national holiday to honor mothers, Mother’s Day.
The holiday is now celebrated in over 40 countries on various dates. Many people honor their mothers in church, with presents, by having family dinners, and in other ways to express their love. Cards and flowers are the most popular gifts. Happy Mother’s Day! Be inspired! Have a bright day!
