Today’s dose of inspiration comes from a woman who has made many lists. She was declared one of Hollywood’s Most Beautiful and received other similar placement on lists for her beauty. She’s made Forbes list for top earnings as an television actress in 2011. Among other lists she has also been named Philanthropist of the Year by The Hollywood Reporter. Eva Longoria is the actress, producer, director, activist, author, restaurateur and businesswoman I am writing about today.
Eva Longoria was born in Corpus Christi, Texas. She worked for three years at a fast food restaurant while in high school. She went on to graduate from Texas A&M University-Kingsville with a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology. While there she won the title of Miss Corpus Christi, USA. After graduation another talent contest led her to Los Angeles and being signed by a theatrical agent. She worked as a headhunter and had roles before landing her big break which was on The Young and the Restless. Two years there portraying Isabella Brana led to more work before landing the role of Gabrielle Solis on the comedy-drama Desperate Housewives. Desperate Housewives and other roles have led to nominations and awards.
Eva Longoria has continued to act, but has also opened a restaurant, published books, and released a women’s apparel collection among other ventures. She founded Eva’s Heroes to help developmentally disabled children. She has been involved with 38 charities benefitting causes such as AIDS & HIV, cancer, homelessness, Veteran/ Service Member Support, and many supporting women, children, and education. Eva Longoria has earned many awards for her philanthropy and contributions to and support of the Latin community.
Eva Longoria received a master’s degree from California State University, Northridge. Her master’s in Chicano Studies was awarded following three years of study. Her thesis focused on Latinas in STEM Careers. This seems like a natural course of study from her following her bachelor of Science. STEM is an acronym for disciplines that are about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Eva Longoria can be added to a list in your head of celebrities that give back. Like she has you can feel good about exploring your interests and giving to things you care about. Start or continue today. Have a bright day!
