Let’s take a moment to compare life to a card game. Some of us are dealt good hands and some of are dealt bad hands. When playing a game like poker the hand can change as play progresses. Luck and skill are both a part of the game. When you are “hot” you can win. Skill can keep you playing the game. Even with bad hands you can have a good night playing. By drawing this comparison I am not trivializing tough times. The good and the bad we go through make us who we are today. Some people always seem to be dealt good hands and other people use their skills to get to better points in the game.
Jennifer Hudson is inspirational and has had both good and bad in her life. She was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She had brothers and sisters and spent a lot of her early years in church. She sang in the church choir and credits God, her mother, and grandmother for her success. When she was seven years old she not only started singing in the church choir, but also performing community theater.
She went away to a university, but homesickness brought her home to attended a local college. A recording contract and work singing on a Disney cruise ship led to her appearing as a contestant on American Idol in 2004. Her success on American Idol led to successful albums and her first award winning role as a supporting actress in Dreamgirls.
Wherever you are in life, you have to play with the hand you are dealt. Use your skills, and like Jennifer Hudson is known for, try to stay positive. Enjoy your game!
