Footballer or soccer player.  Many people disagree on what to call the game and its players.  However many people that enjoy the game agree that Pele is soccer’s all-time greatest player.  Pele was born Edson Arantes do Nascimento in Brazil.  There has been disagreement or problems with the name and date on his birth certificate as well. Pele is a nickname that stuck when he was young, although he did not like it.

Pele was first coached by his father and went on to play on many leagues over the years.  He played indoor soccer during his early playing years and credits the experience as how he became a master of thinking quickly on his feet.  He has since earned many awards, medals, and honors, including World Cups.  He was even in the Guinness World Records for most career goals scored.  Time magazine named him as one of their 100 most influential people of the 20th century.  He has received awards and honors throughout the world.

He became known as a humanitarian after retiring from soccer.  World hunger, social, ecological, and environmental issues have all received his aid.  He was named UN ambassador and received other appointments, awards, and honors.  Pele has published autobiographies and starred in films and video games.  He has been busy with many ventures even producing advertising.

Pele has been married multiple times and had children.  He has 3 sons and 3 daughters.  There has been disagreements and controversies in his personal life.  One thing is for sure, Pele has led a full and amazing life.

As a soccer player and a humanitarian Pele’s life is inspiring.  From enjoying stories to playing or watching the game Pele’s influence can be seen.  Whatever you call the game enjoy its place in our society.  Enjoy your day!
